“Caped Fear: The First Elseworld” (Featurette).Like most of the animated Batman movies released on Blu-ray, Batman: Gotham by Gaslight is packed with some great special features that take you behind the scenes of the release and also some first looks at other upcoming DC animated releases. ![]() Special Features light up Gotham by Gaslight The blu-ray release of Batman: Gotham by Gaslight looks stunning, with its crisp lines for the animation and even the darker scenes stand out well, the movie has certainly brought the book to life and it is one that fits very well in my ever-growing collection of animated Batman movies. Gotham by Gaslight is certainly a great addition to the collection of Batman animated movies, with great animation, a story that will keep you guessing for quite a while, a soundtrack that works very well to build the atmosphere of the animation and of course a great voice cast to bring the characters to life on this release. Other characters from the world of Batman are included with Harvey Dent (voiced by Yuri Lowenthal), James Gordon (voiced by Scott Patterson), Hugo Strange (voiced by William Salyers), Poison Ivy (voiced by Kari Wuhrer) and more, all looking good in their Victorian animated timeline. We also see Selina Kyle (voiced by Jennifer Carpenter), she is very different from the Catwoman we may all know, Selina is dressed in Victorian clothing and looks great throughout the movie. Joining Batman (voiced by Bruce Greenwood) as always is Alfred (voiced by Anthony Head), Head certainly brings that Victorian feel to the character with his voice acting, and to be honest I absolutely love him as Bruce Wayne’s long caring and suffering friend. Batman uses his detective skills to solve the case of who is Jack the Ripper and why he is committing these atrocious murders. It does take a little getting used to as you watch a more basic Batman hunting down Jack the Ripper, there is no computer to help him, or a Batmobile to travel on, although he does have a rather brilliant looking steampunk vehicle later in the film, look out for that. After seeing Batman is Bruce Wayne, she takes him to her home where they spend the night.Batman Gotham by Gaslight – Jennifer CarpenterĪs with previous Batman animated movies the animation in the movie is superb, look out the fight scenes between Batman and Jack the Ripper, they are brilliantly done. Batman is chased by police, only to be saved by Selina when he is nearly cornered. Batman chases Jack on top of an airship in a fight that leaves Batman wounded as the airship explodes and Jack escapes. At Arkham Asylum, Hugo is attacked by Jack and is ripped apart by his own patients. Alfred stops the three orphans from pick-pocketing him and decides to help them. Bruce also is met by Marlene, an old woman who claims she saw him sneaking around when Sister Leslie was killed. At Sister Leslie’s funeral, Bruce is met by Hugo Strange, claiming he knows the killer and wants to meet with Batman. At the crime scene, Bruce finds a bloody Dionysus Club pen, meaning Jack has to be one of Gotham’s wealthy. Bruce rushes out to save Leslie from the Ripper but is too late, as Jack has already murdered her. ![]() Bruce realizes that not only were the two of them taken in by Sister Leslie, but that some of the murdered girls were orphans formerly under Leslie’s care. After escaping, Batman asks Gordon to help him bring the Ripper down.Īt the Monarch Theatre with his friend Harvey Dent, Bruce meets Selina and the two bond at the Dionysus Club. It works, but Jack gets the upper hand during their fight until the arrival of Batman. ![]() Later that night, Selina acts as bait for Jack. Stage actress Selina Kyle, a protector of the women from “Skinner’s End”, verbally attacks Gotham policemen James Gordon and Chief Bullock for their inaction in stopping Jack. The murders keep happening night after night citizens of Gotham believe the Batman and Jack to be the same man. At the same time, Ivy, an orphan turned exotic dancer and street worker becomes the latest victim of Jack the Ripper. ![]() One night, Batman saves a wealthy couple from being robbed by three orphans (Dickie, Jason and Timmy) and defeats their handler, Big Bill Dust. In Victorian era Gotham City, Bruce Wayne is operating as the bat-garbed vigilante, the Batman, who is feared by the guilty and the innocent alike.
